Day 72- opportunity knocks

Cleaned up a yard in Roanoke today. I had a ton of things to do at home but I felt like I needed to help, as the debris we had to clean up at this house was massive. I had lots of opportunities to say positive things to my daughter, my husband and my son in law who were all working too. It felt good to think about kind things to say.

A homeless couple saw us and asked if we could pay them to help. We were happy to have the extra help as this job was taking far too long. It was nice to see them working so hard for their money. When they were done, my son in law went to get cash to pay them and he brought them back a meal as well. I was so impressed to see his generosity.

There are opportunities to do and say positive things every day.

Nobody Loves You Like Your Mum

Remember the radio advertisement for Outback Steakhouse?
Their ditty went:
"Nobody Loves You Like Your Mum
Even When she whacks you on the bum."

It's true.

Most parents want what is best for the child, the child wanting to have his way, becomes angry when a parent inflicts a consequence or allows a consequence to occur naturally. They do not want to understand that what the parents do is out of love, to teach them to be responsible and make good choices.

Does this example sound familiar:
Our family has discussed that we are to be on time to things and why that is important.As part of that discussion we talk about ways to make that happen, make a place for your things; school work , shoes, etc. and put them there; do your homework before you play etc.,
Morning comes and it is time to leave for school, one child cannot find his homework, it is time to be at school, I say " you cannot be tardy, it is time to be at school, you will have to suffer the consequence of not putting your homework away." The child gets angry and complains," I will get in trouble, why can't I be late?, the homework was stupid anyway, I shouldn't have to do homework", etc.
Well he certainly could be late, but if you do that too many times their are other consequences.
The truth is the child would feel freer if he had just put his homework where it belongs. Free from all the consequences of not doing what he should.
Have you ever had a teenage daughter rant in anger because she wasn't allowed to be alone with her boyfreind?
You understand and appreciate the potential consequences of such a decision.

Another parent once said:
Gen. 4: 6&7
6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door.

Being a mother has taught me that there is truth in the world and no matter how much we want something to be true so that we can do what we want, doesn't make it true or right to do.

You may want to drugs and you are free to do them, but you are not free to choose the consequences, which is usually slavery to drugs and ensuing financial ruin, lack of dependability and irresponsible behavior.

You may want to live a homosexual life style, and you are free do it, but you are not free to choose the consequences.

You can rant and rave like a child and try to get what you want
in the name of freedom, but how free will you truly be if you don't live by truth.

Again the wise parent says:
John 8: 32

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
